Lookin At Lucky 2010 Kentucky Derby Odds: Many are looking forward in seeing colt Lookin At Lucky (Smart Strike – Private Feeling by Belong To Me) compete on May 1st at Churchill Downs as a 2010 Kentucky Derby favorite. Already in Kentucky on the historic track, there have already been many onlookers there to watch this champion practice. Go to BODOG.com to get all of the current betting odds on all of your Kentucky Derby favorites.
A 13 to 4 odds favorite, Lookin At Lucky will need to get at there and bring in that 1st place win that he’s use to doing. 2010, brought in a 1st place win at the Rebel-G2 in Arkansas and then a 3rd place finish in the Santa Anita Derby-G1 in Santa Barbara both with jockey Garrett Gomez. Trainer Bob Baffert who has two colts starting at this year’s Kentucky Derby, got Lookin At Lucky out first and easily ran five furlongs in 1:01 1/5.
"I just wanted to get over the track and see where they stand — just get a little easy five-eighths into both of them," trainer Bob Baffert said of both Lookin At Lucky and Conveyance during practice. "It seemed like they went over it nice. I just want to see how they handle it when they work. They're coming from synthetic, so I just want to get them that extra stroll through there to get used to it because, you know, it's different. It's totally different from what they're used to. I think we'll sharpen them up for the next work."
During practice Lookin at Lucky covered the distance in fractional times of :12 3/5, :25 1/5, ::37 2/5 and :49 3/5 over the fast track and six furlongs in 1:14 3/5. Bob Baffert did mention that he would be removing the blinkers that Lookin At Lucky had been wearing in his last two races. With whatever Baffert decides, I’m sure owner Michael Pegram has complete faith in his award winning trainer.
"You learn more from your losses than your wins, so I'm taking the blinkers off him," Bob Baffert continued to say. "He doesn't need blinkers. The thought was he needed a target, because he'd make the lead. But he's going to have plenty of targets in the Derby with all those horses in there. I think it'll settle him a little bit. He was getting a little antsy at Oaklawn with me (in the Rebel) with the blinkers on going to the gate, and he's usually a pretty cool customer. So he doesn't need 'em."
