Homeboykris who's coming in at 60 to 1 odds hasn’t really shown much success in past months with a 5th place finish at the Holly Bull-G3 and 2nd in Allowance both out of the Gulfstream Park in Florida. The last and only win he had was in October of 2009 in the Champagne-G1 at Belmont Park with jockey Edgar Prado.
"The rider said he went good so we're good right now," said trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. "We're just winging it with him at the moment. The weather has been bad down here but we had a chance to breeze him today so we breezed him."
Rick Dutrow Jr. had every intention of training Homeboykris every six days leading up to the Derby but has admitted that the flight to Kentucky scheduled for April 20th could interfere with that training regimen. But let’s hope that he follows after his grandfather’s 2nd place win in the 2000 Kentucky Derby as well as a 1st place finish in the Preakness.
"I'd like to breeze him here on the 20th, we'll just have to see how early the flight is," said Dutrow on Homeboykris. "If he gets one more work here, he'll likely work just once more in Kentucky. I am training him the same basic way I train all my horses."
