Coming in at 40 to 1 odds, Dean’s Kitten trainer Mike Maker has already gone through a training of routine gallops this morning with exercise rider Marvin Jiminez at nearby Trackside Training Center. His final work is scheduled for Saturday to prepare for the Kentucky Derby but it’s still in question who will be Dean’s Kitten Derby jockey as Maker has stated that a rider has not yet been confirmed.
"He worked well yesterday (1:01 4/5 for five furlongs at Trackside) and he will work every Saturday or Sunday prior to the Derby,” trainer Mike Maker said early April on Dean’s Kitten training schedule.
Dean’s Kitten will definitely need to bring on his best for the Kentucky Derby but this colt hasn’t had a horrible 2010 thus far. February started out this thoroughbred’s 2010 year at the Hallandale Beach where he finished 4th. March showed to be a better month when he finished 2nd in the Palm Beach-G3 and a 1st place win in the Lane’s End-G2 out of Turfway Park in Kentucky all with jockey Cornelio Velasquez. We’ll have to see how well he does coming soon on May 1st.
