2010 Kentucky Derby Contenders: It looks as though Lookin at Lucky is the solid favorite for the 2010 Kentucky Derby that will be held on May 1st live from Churchill Downs on NBC. The derby is celebrating its 136th year and will start at 5 PM ET. With favorite Eskendereya out of the race due to a leg injury, sports betting odds favorite Lookin At Lucky [9/4] steps in as the new top contender.
Since arriving at Churchill Downs, the colt has made vast improvements on a daily basis. Earlier today, Lookin At Lucky completed his final major workout in 1:00.08. Bob Baffert and Mike Pegram are the co-owners of Lucky, are hoping to make it once again to the winners circle on Saturday.
"If Garrett (Gomez) can just get him in the right spot, and give him a chance to win, that's all he needs," Baffert said. "If he turns for home and he's right there, he'll give it his all. He's a fierce competitor."
But in Louisville things keep shifting on a daily basis. The expected 20 Derby horses changed once again on Monday, after Rule was eliminated and Devil May Care was added.
But as of now, oddsmaker Mike Battaglia is calling Lookin At Lucky the “solid favorite” for Saturday’s race. "I'm thinking he'll be right around 3-1 – not as solid as Eskendereya would have been, but still pretty solid," said Battaglia.
