Coming in at 15 to 1 odds, Noble’s Promise (Cuvee – The Devil’s Trick by Clever Trick) could have possibly been out of the May 1st Kentucky Derby due to a lung infection he had been dealing with since the Arkansas Derby in which he finished 5th place. Co-owner Robert Brewster made it official after there were no signs of the infection and gave trainer Kenny McPeek the go ahead to get Noble’s Promise out on the track for the Monday designated Derby work period. He covered 4 furlongs in 48 4/5 seconds, which pleased McPeek, “He needed to work well, which he did.”
McPeek is hoping that there will be no other surprises with Noble’s Promise. He walked the colt Tuesday and will gallop the rest of the week leading up to Saturday’s Run for the Roses. Noble’s Promise will be starting out of post position 3.
KentuckyDerby.com said on Noble’s Promise, “Noble’s Promise is Cuvee’s most successful offspring to date. While there is plenty of class in this female family, the sprint-heavy male line and broodmare sire line suggest Noble’s Promise might have some distance limitations.”
