Midnight Interlude Kentucky Derby 2011 Odds

by Matt Foust on Friday, May 6th, 2011

Three time Kentucky Derby winning trainer Bob Baffert will look to add another title to his resume tomorrow with the son of War Chant and Midnight Kiss, Midnight Interlude. Sports Betting Odds and Kentucky Derby 2011 Odds have the bay colt listed at +1200 moneyline odds to win tomorrow's 1 1/4 miles Triple Crown event.

Bob Baffert is no stranger to performing Midnight Interlude Kentucky Derby 2011 Oddswell on the big stage as he helped guide Silver Charm, Real Quiet, War Emblem, Point Given, and Lookin At Lucky to Triple Crown series victories. Three of those horses, Silver Charm, Real Quiet, and War Emblem, rewarded the Arizona native with winning runs at Churchill Downs.

Baffert believes Midnight Interlude has the potential to be his fourth Derby winner, but he is not shouting that from the Louisville roof tops just yet.

"He is a horse that is going to be running the last part of it, but he does need a target (to run at) because he sort of gets lost out there," Baffert said. "I think the ability could be there, but we still have a way to go with him. He hasn't been in a big crowd where he gets jostled around, so I don't know how he will handle that. The way he ran the Santa Anita Derby, he looked like he was wanting more ground. I'm just glad to be here with a horse like him. At least he's doing well and I think he is thriving. Whether he can take the next step forward, we'll find out Saturday."

Midnight Interlude will start tomorrow's race from post position 15, a spot that has yielded three winners since 1984. The last colt to take home a Derby victory after starting in the 15 hole was Fusaichi Pegasus, who turned in winning time of 2:01.12 in 2000.

Mexican jockey Victor Espinoza will have Midnight Interlude's mount tomorrow. Espinoza, who rode War Emblem to Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes titles for Baffert in 2002, piloted Interlude to the top spot in last month's Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby.
