Aikenite 2010 Preakness Stakes Odds: Making his debut in the Triple Crown is Aikenite who was a contender in the Derby Trial-G3 but wasn’t raced in the May 1st Kentucky Derby. Go to SPORTSBOOK.com to get all of the current betting odds on all of your Preakness Stakes favorites.
Coming in at +1800 odds, Todd Pletcher trained Aikenite will be starting from the inside rail out of post 1 and for the first time in the Triple Crown. His last race in the Derby Trial-G3 resulted in a 2nd place finish with jockey Garrett Gomez. With a record of 0-1-1 out of four races in 2010, this colt will need to step it up in order to compete against the top ranked horses racing in the 2010 Preakness Stakes on May 15th. As it’s already been decided that jockey Gomez will be riding Dublin, Todd Pletcher has chosen Javier Castellano to ride Aikenite in Saturday’s race.
"If it's not I'm going to murder the jockey" said Cot Campbell jokingly "We're certainly going to tell him that and we have a great rider in Javier Castellano and we're going to tell him to take hold of him when he comes out of the gate and drag him back about 10 lengths off the pace. Then ask him the question at about the half mile pole and hopefully get the right answer."
Aikenite (Yes It’s True – Silverado by Saint Ballado) is owned by Dogwood Stable and was bred in Florida by Brylynn Farm Inc. President of Dogwood Stable Cot Campbell is anxiously awaiting the May 15th race as it’s been 20 years since one of their colts (Summer Squall) won the Preakness. Both Todd Pletcher and Campbell have a plan to hold Aikenite off the pace until the half-mile pole and then let him run.
