Caracortado 2010 Preakness Odds: 2010 Preakness contender Caracortado arrived in Baltimore Wednesday with trainer Mike Machowsky wanting to waste no time getting his horse on the Pimlico track. Go to SPORTSBOOK.com to get all of the current betting odds on all of your Preakness Stakes favorites.
Coming in at +900 odds, Caracortado is making his debut for the first time outside of California. I’m curious to see how well he does as this will also be the first time he won’t be competing on a synthetic surface but instead a dirt surface. As a colt, his record stands at 1-0-1 out of 3 races with his 1st place win being in the Robert B. Lewis-G2. His March race in the San Felipe-G2 resulted in a 3rd place finish and came in 4th last month in the Santa Anita Derby-G1.
"I think he'll be on the lead or close to it," trainer and owner Mike Machowsky said. "I just don't see a lot of speed in here. The only other two horses that they think have any gas are inside of me, and if they want to go, I'll be right there with him."
Trainer and owner Mike Machowsky has entrusted jockey Paul Atkinson to mount aboard Caracortado once again out of post 9 as the jockey has ridden the horse in all of his seven starts. Caracortado’s (Cat Dreams – Mons Venus by Maria’s Mon) name is Spanish for “scarface” in which was given to him after he suffered a cut to his face as a young horse.
“If you look at the replay, my horse had as much trouble if not more trouble than Lookin At Lucky. He checked and we had to check and fell back to almost last and come four and five wide,” said Machowsky of the Santa Anita Derby-G1, which could have gotten him into the Kentucky Derby should he had won. “He’s fresh and ready now.”
