At +450 odds, Paddy O’Prado (El Prado – Fun House by Prized) is one of the clear favorites after Super Saver and Lookin At Lucky. Trainer Dale Romans seems pleased with a repeated post 10 draw for the 2010 Preakness Stakes seeing that there won’t be as many contenders in this race as there were in the Kentucky Derby earlier this month. After placing 3rd in the May 1st race, there is a strong possibility that Paddy O’Prado could win the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown.
"Really, in a 12-horse field, there's not a terrible position to have," noted Paddy's trainer Dale Romans, "I didn't want to be in the one or 12 if we could help it, and anything else we were going to be happy with. Paddy didn't have a problem with the 10-hole in the Derby and I'd like to have him on the inside of First Dude. It gives us a few more options maybe."
Paddy O’Prado’s 2010 record comes in at 1-1-2 of four starts and owners of Donegal Racing are in high hopes to add a Preakness Stakes win to that record. Jockey Kent Desormeaux is no stranger to Paddy O’Prado as he’s ridden the colt in his last two races and will be riding the horse again for the May 15th race. Should everything run smoothly, Paddy O’Prado could take this one since Desormeaux is very knowledgeable of the Pimlico track.
"I would have liked to have been a little more in the middle. I guess we're destined to be the No. 10 horse in the Triple Crown series," said one of 10 Paddy O’Prado owners Jerry Crawford. "I'm more excited, less anxiety. And now we know he belongs. Now we know he's a Triple Crown caliber horse. So, we're more optimistic and aggressive in our viewpoint than we were going into the Derby. He's won a bronze medal, it's time for the gold."
