2011 Preakness Stakes Odds

by Abe Luciano on Saturday, May 14th, 2011

After winning the 137th Kentucky Derby, many are wondering if Sports Betting Odds favorite Animal Kingdom [+250] will have what it takes to win two weeks later at this years’ Preakness Stakes. The possible Triple Crown contender will head to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore in just one week to take on the challenge of the 2011 Preakness Stakes on May 21st.

Animal Kingdom’s trainer Graham Motion is confident in his horse, despite next week’s race being only his second event on dirt. But his first time was at Churchill Downs and he took on the challenge quite well. Besides jogging at his home in Fair Hill Training Center, Animal Kingdom is said to have no formal workout scheduled out for him.

"I think it's unlikely," Motion said. "I wouldn't normally work a horse who has two weeks between races. If he's good enough, he'll handle it. There is nothing I can do between now and then to make him any more competitive."

The Derby winner is also expected to make an uncommonly late arrival next week, since Motion told the media he is contemplating on waiting for Animal Kingdom to complete his morning exercises from home on Friday before heading over to the race course in Baltimore.

Animal Kingdom has only had four career starts, the fewest for any Kentucky Derby winner. Here is a list of some of the other competitor’s chances next week at the second leg of the Triple Crown:
