by Steve Hastings on Saturday, May 16th, 2009

The 2009 Preakness Picks Experts of Sports-Odds.com had this to say about General Quarters, Pioneerof the Nile and Flying Private.

8th Post Position 2009 Preakness – General Quarters: The 2009 Preakness Picks Experts think General Quarters could be a sleeper that sneaks in the money today at Pimlico. General Quarters finished 10th in the 2009 Kentucky Derby but the performance or lack thereof was due to the colt getting a ton of dirt in his eyes and nostrils during the race.

His new jockey in the 2009 Preakness Stakes is Julian Leparoux, who is among the top riders in the world. SBG Global has General Quarters listed at 18 to 1 odds (Bet $100 to win $1800), down from his morning line of 20 to 1. Trainer is Tom McCarthy. Jockey is Julian Leparoux.

9th Post Position 2009 Preakness – All of the 2009 Preakness Picks Experts agree that Pioneerof the Nile will finish in the money today at Pimlico.  Pioneerof the Nile finished 2nd in the 2009 Kentucky Derby.  Bob Naffert knows how to get it done at Pimlico, the trainer of Pioneerof the Nile has won the Preakness Stakes on 4 separate occasions including with War Emblem in 2002, Point Given in 2001, Real Quiet, Silver Charm in 1997. Bodog.com has Pioneerof the Nile listed at 4 to 1 odds (Bet $100 to win $400), shorter odds then his morning line of 5 to 1.  Trainer is Bob Baffert. Jockey is Garrett Gomez.

10th Post Position 2009 Preakness – Flying Private: The only horse that Flying Private beat at the 2009 Kentucky Derby was morning line favorite I Want Revenge however, the favorite was scratched the morning of the race. The 2009 Preakness Picks Experts do not believe that Flying Private has a chance to finish in the money and will most likely come in last once again in the 2009 Preakness Stakes. Sportsbook.com has Flying Private listed at 55 to 1 odds (Bet $100 to win $5500), longer odds then his morning line of 50 to 1. Trainer is D. Wayne Lukas. Jockey is Alan Garcia.
