The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 will take place this Sunday, May 29th at the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Two time Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti and 2008 race winner Scott Dixon are Sports Betting Odds favorites to be the first to take the checkered flag this weekend. Both drivers are presently listed at +350 moneyline odds to win the historic race. Canadian Alex Tagliani, who currently sits seventh in the IZOD IndyCar Series point standings, won the pole for Sunday's event.
Dario Franchitti won his second 
Indianapolis 500 last year, recording the highest average speed at the event (161.623 mph) since Helio Castroneves averaged 166.499 mph in 2002. Franchitti's 2010 victory marked his first under the Target/Chip Ganassi Racing banner.
Franchitti, who is married to movie star Ashley Judd, is currently 14 points behind IndyCar Series leader Will Power. The 38 year old Scotsman won the season's first race, the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, on March 27th; he has gone on to record two third and one fourth place finish.
Power, who is listed at +600 odds to win on Sunday, finshed second to Franchitti at St. Petersburg, but he has won two races this year, including the most recent Indy run, the Itaipava Sao Paulo Indy 300 in Brazil.
Scott Dixon, the co-favorite for Sunday's 100th Indianapolis 500 Anniversary, currently holds eighth place in the points standings with a total of 84. Despite leading just one lap this season, Dixon is always a threat at Indy, where he has finished no worse than sixth since 2006. The New Zealand born Dixon, who now lives in Indianapolis, is teammates with Franchitti.
Danica Patrick, who is rumored to be making a full time switch to NASCAR next year, is listed at 25 to 1 odds to become the first woman to win the Indianapolis 500. Patrick's best finish at the track came in 2009 when she finished third. Patrick started 23rd last year, but worked her way to a solid sixth place finish.
