Chip Ganassi Racing teammates, Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon, have three Indianapolis 500 wins between them, so, it should come as no surprise that the pair are co-favorites to win this weekend's race. Sports Betting Odds have each driver listed at +350 moneyline odds to take first at the 100th running of the indianapolis 500 this Sunday. Dixon, however, is favored at -125 odds to finish ahead of his colleague in the latest driver matchups.
The fact that Dixon (No. 9) is favored
slightly over Franchitti (No. 10) in the driver pairing odds comes as somewhat of a surprise given how the two have performed on the IRL circuit this year. Yes, the season is still young, but Franchitti, who owns three IZOD IndyCar Series championships (2007, 2009, 2010), has, pardon the pun, driven circles around his teammate.
The British born Franchitti sits second in the points standings (154) after recording one win and four top five finishes. Dixon, who won the points championship in 2003 and 2008, has held his own in comparison to the rest of the field, but he is six spots back of Franchitti with a total of 84 points. Dixon has also finished outside the top 10 in three of the four races this season, with his best result (second) coming at the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama on April 10th.
Both drivers have a history of performing well at the Indianapolis 500, especially in recent years. Dixon has finished no worse than sixth at the event since 2006, and he has found his way into the top five three times in that span, including 2008 when he won his first and only Indy 500.
Franchitti just happen to miss the 2008 race after dabbling in NASCAR for half a season, but he won the race the season before that and he took seventh in his full-time return to the circuit in 2009. Last year Franchitti won his second Indy 500, joining a group of 17 drivers that have procured at least two victories in the legendary race.
Dixon does have the advantage in the starting order, though, as he will begin Sunday's race from the middle of the first row. Franchitti will start from the outside of row three.
Scott Dixon -125
Dario Franchitti -105
