At 25 to 1 odds, Dave In Dixie will be making his debut in the last leg of the Triple Crown. It’s also been confirmed that Super Saver’s jockey Calvin Borel will be leading the colt in the 142nd Belmont Stakes out of post postition 1. Owner Ike Thrash is very hopeful that Dave In Dixie will bring in the win.
“One-and-a-half miles is a long way, but Dave in Dixie looks like he wants to run all day,” Ike Thrash said. “Everybody thinks they’ve got a horse than can run one and a half miles. But few do. “He’s had nine weeks rest. He’s good. We always thought he was the best one (of the Thrash colts). But honestly, I have no earthly idea how he’ll run.”
Kentucky bred, Dave In Dixie (Dixie Union – Risk by Wavering Monarch) will be starting out from post 5. The John Sadler trained horse will need to be at his best as he hasn’t brought in a win since August of 2009. His last race was in the April Illinois Derby-G3 in which he finished 5th. However, Sadler is staying positive especially since Dave In Dixie has had an 11-week break and has his trust in Calvin Borel.
