Owners of Drosselmeyer – Winstar Farm are very happy to finally be participants in the 2010 Triple Crown. They’ll be entering this Saturday’s Belmont Stakes with high hopes that their colt can bring in the first place finish. Drosselmeyer was unable to compete in the May 1st Kentucky Derby due to not having enough graded stakes earnings and didn’t enter the May 15th Preakness either.
"We didn't think three or four days ago that he looked comfortable galloping. “After adding the shoes on Saturday we galloped him on Sunday, and then worked today," Drosselmeyer’s trainer William Mott said. "That's one of the reasons we waited a day to work him; we wanted to gallop him in the shoes first. We wanted a decent sort of work. He worked good, galloped out good. I wasn't disappointed that it was too fast. At least not to this point. If he's meant to be a good horse, it shouldn't bother him."
Coming in at +1200 odds, Drosselmeyer (Distorted Humor – Golden Ballet by Moscow Ballet) started the year off good with his 1st place finish in the Allow out of Gulfstream Park in Florida with jockey Kent Desormeaux. His last two races brought in a 3rd place finish in the March Louisiana Derby-G2 and came in runner up in the May Dwyer-G2. There were concerns from trainer William Mott after Drosselmeyer bruised the shock absorbers on the soles of his feet (frogs) after the Dwyer Stakes race but added bar shoes to correct the problem and is staying positive with jockey Mike Smith riding the colt out of post position 7.
