Fly Down 2010 Belmont Stakes Odds: Looking to win the 2010 Belmont Stakes is Fly Down who just brought home the victory at the May 8th Dwyer Stakes. Go to SPORTSBOOK.com to get all of the current betting odds on all of your Belmont Stakes favorites.
Hoping for a repeat of the Dwyer Stakes is Fly Down's (Mineshaft-Queen Randi by Fly So Free) owner Richard Pell who is looking to bring home yet another victory in the last leg of the Triple Crown. Coming in at a +400 odds favorite, the Broadway Thoroughbreds colt is another horse that has come from A.P. Indy’s bloodline.
"I always felt he’d like the track at Belmont with the sandy surface. He’s a big horse, and those kind often do well at Belmont. Plus his sire won the Jockey Club Gold Cup (gr. I) there," Fly Down’s owner Richard Pell stated. "I’m confident that on his best day Fly Down can compete with horses like First Dude, who’s a very good horse, I think. The Belmont will be a different pace scenario, and a mile and a half, so it’s a different dynamic and you never know. I believe both have improved since they last met in February, so we’ll have to see who has improved more."
Fly Down will be one of two Nick Zito’s colts racing in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes. Jockey John Velazquez last rode Fly Down in the October 2009 MSW in which resulted in a 3rd place finish but will be riding the colt again for the June 5th race out of post 5.
Pell continued, "I’m hard-pressed to think of a race I’d rather win. Just to have the ‘Chairman of the Board’ (Frank Sinatra) singing ‘New York, New York’ when the horses come out on the track. It would be a big thrill."
