After the unexpected passing of trainer Alan Seewald, Bob Hutt, president of Fantasy Lane Stable decided to go with a Belmont-based trainer and 2006 Belmont winner Kiaran McLaughlin got he job.
"I had called in February about purchasing Uptowncharlybrown," McLaughlin mentioned. "They weren't interested in selling-which was fine, of course-but I think when it came time to deciding on a new trainer that may have helped me. They knew that I liked the horse."

"Alan had put the blinkers on because he wanted to put some speed in him," McLaughlin announced. "But usually horses under our care seem to show more pace anyway and he had already won without them."
Uptowncharlybrown was bred by Juan Bruno & Rose Hill Farm and has a pedigree from Limehouse and La Iluminada by Langfuhr. He has a 2-0-2 record in five starts. Uptowncharlybrown began his horse racing career with back-to-back wins. In his last race, Uptowncharlybrown came in third in the Grade II Coolmore Lexington Stakes on April 17th., losing to Exhi and Bushwhacked. Jockey Rajiv Maragh will take the mount for the first time on Uptowncharlybrown.
