by Abe Luciano on Saturday, June 6th, 2009

2009 Belmont Stakes Chocolate Candy 12 to 1 Belmont Odds: As the highly anticipated 141st 2009 Belmont Stakes nears, well rested Chocolate Candy and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer look forward to having a good chance to upset Mine That Bird and put a stop to Calvin Borel’s bid for horseracing immortality.

After coming in fifth in the 2009 Kentucky Derby, Chocolate Candy was sent to New York May 6th exclusively to have enough time to prepare for the 2009 Belmont Stakes in Belmont Park.

At the advice of Ted Aroney, racing manager for owner Jenny Craig, advised Hollendorfer to come early and they believe the effort has paid off for Saturday.

So do 2009 Belmont Stakes Odds makers at Bodog.com, who have assembled nothing but the best Sports Odds for tonight’s 2009 Belmont Stakes race.

According to the experts, Chocolate Candy [12/1] has been given the fifth best Sports Odds to win the 2009 Belmont Stakes crown, trailing: Mine That Bird [4/3], Charitable Man [3/1], Dunkirk [5/1] and Summer Bird [10/1].

After having more than 5,000 victories with Chocolate Candy, Hollendorfer considers C.C. among his all time best. “I thought he was one of the best horses that I’ve tried to take into the Triple Crown races,” said Hollendorfer.

Despite the early uncertainty of who would ride his colt, Chocolate Candy has ended up with Garrett Gomez, who rode Derby runner-up Pioneerof the Nile . "I don't really know what all went on there in the musical-chair jockey thing," he said. "But we ended up with Garrett, and we're pleased about that. He's arguably one of the best riders in the country."

His colt’s derby jockey, Mike Smith, will be riding Madeo in the Wittingham Memorial Handicap at Hollywood Park today, making him unavailable. Chocolate Candy has won four of 10 starts and at 10-to-1 is the fourth choice in the morning line for the Belmont Stakes.

"He seems to like it wherever he goes," Hollendorfer said. "He's a beautiful-looking horse and he covers a lot of ground. And, you know, if I can get a little luck, I think he'll run real good in the Belmont."
