Big Brown Trainer Blames Jockey for Belmont Stakes Loss: Less than a week ago, Big Brown was a locked betting odds-on favorite to break the current Triple Crown 30-year drought in Thoroughbred horse racing. However, by Saturday’s conclusion of the grueling mile-and-a-half that is the Belmont Stakes, Big Brown had entered the history books, but for all the wrong reasons. Big Brown was a huge betting odds favorite to complete the difficult task of winning the longing Triple Crown.
Big Brown became the first-ever Triple Crown hopeful to finish in last place at the Belmont Stakes, on the last leg in route to the Triple Crown. 
Big Brown’s trainer, Rick Dutrow Jr. is now blames placing all the blame on his jockey for the horse’s historic collapse at the Belmont Stakes.
Dutrow spoke with the Associated Press Tuesday morning: "I don't want to hurt anyone, especially Kent… but I still don't understand what happened. I don't see the horse with a problem, so I have to direct my attention toward the ride. That's all I can come up with."
Kent Desormeaux, Big Brown’s jockey, felt the horse wasn’t capable of winning the race, and concern for Brownie’s well being, he decided not to push the horse with a quarter-mile still remaining in the race.
After it was all over, he was obviously asked what happened. Desormeaux simply replied: "I had no horse. He was empty." Big Brown Trainer Blames Jockey for Belmont Stakes Loss. So far, they’ve yet to find anything wrong with Big Brown. Thus, if he remains healthy, Dutrow’s plans are to run Brown in the Travers Stakes on Aug. 23 at Saratoga.
