2010 Breeders Cup Classic Odds Favorite Zenyatta: One of the most prestigious horse races in North America is around the corner, and preparations are under way. The Breeders Cup Classic kicks off on Saturday from Churchill Downs in Louisville, and many are wondering if anyone can beat the undefeated Zenyatta.
The defending champion is in for some serious competition this year, but no one can deny that what she has done thus far demands attention. Zenyatta, considered one of the greatest racehorses in the last half-century, has won all of her 19 races.
Last year she defeated a great set of quality racers and is hoping she can do it again.
Her jockey Mike Smith shared with reporters how much he is looking forward to this weekend: "I'm really excited, she's training well, she looks just amazing, so I have to say she could be even better than last year…racing's racing, you know, it's a tough sport, you just have to get out there and get our trip and get it done and given the opportunity and that she runs like I know she can, we can see something really special."
On Tuesday the unbeaten mare arrived at Churchill Downs with the company of a police escort after flying from California. Zenyatta had her first workout on Wednesday morning , which brought together many spectators hoping to catch a glimpse.
Zenyetta’s co-owner, Ann Moss did not have anything negative to say about her amazing racer.
"Every day that we are with her is special," Moss said on Tuesday. "She's having such a great time, that we're having a great time. She's so amazing to be around. We feel so blessed."
After Tuesday’s post position draw, Zenyatta was placed 8-5 morning line favorite. On Saturday, the super horse will take on 11 male thoroughbreds in the 1 ¼ mile race.
