Breeders Cup 2010 Odds Quality Road: The 2010 Breeders Cup Classic will welcome Quality Road back, after being scratched at the starting gate from the Classic last year at Santa Anita. The Florida Derby winner had some kind of meltdown as he was getting loaded into the gate, and even had a hood placed over his head in the attempt to calm him down. But nothing worked, as the moody horse suffered scrapes and scratches to his legs.
This year, Quality Road has turned things around. He has had four wins in five starts, but will this be enough for him to have a chance at defeating the 19-0 defending champion, Zenyatta? This time around at the Classic, he hasn’t had much luck either, after drawing the rail for the 12-horse field. Trainer Todd Pletcher was not pleased.
“It wouldn’t have been one of my choices, but it is what it is,” Pletcher said. “You don’t get to choose. He was going to load in the gate first regardless, so that part of it doesn’t change.”
Quality Road is the third choice for this year’s race at 5-1, behind the 8-5 favorite, Zenyatta. The defending champion drew the No. 8 post, and Blame is at 9-2 on the morning line will depart from the fifth post.
“Thus far it’s been impossible to beat her. We’re hoping a dirt track will help us,” Pletcher said. “You have to get a little bit lucky and have a good trip.”
Pletcher is hoping that Quality Road will help is 0-8 record at the Classic, after having won at Woodward and Donn Handicaps this year. This will be Quality Road’s 1 ¼ distance run since over a year ago, when he finished second to Summer Bird in the Jockey Gold Cup.
