Online racebook BODOG.com has posted horse racing betting odds on the 2010 Kentucky Derby Predictions Match Up between Stately Victor vs Paddy O'Prado. What do the Sports-Odds.com horse racing betting and Kentucky Derby Predictions experts think about Stately Victor?
Running out of the sixth gate, Stately Victor is listed as a EVEN money odds underdog in his 2010 Kentucky Derby Predictions Match Up against Paddy O'Prado. Thomas and Jack Conway's Blue Grass winner Stately Victor's pedigree is Ghostzapper and Collect The Cash by Dynaformer. You might be familiar with the owners name, Tom is a U.S. Senate candidate and with his son Jack, are ecstatic to have their colt in the 2010 Kentucky Derby field.
“I’m 72 and it’s quite exciting to have my first Derby runner…I’m just trying to hang on,” Tom said with a laugh.
Stately Victor has a 2-1-0 record in 8 starts and with the Grade I Toyota Blue Grass Stakes victory at Keeneland earlier this month, Stately Victor has a shot to win the Run for the Roses with $451,112 in the Graded Stakes earnings, good enough for seventh for the 3-year-old standings. Trainer Mike Maker and co-owner Tom Conway pleasantly watched his final work last Monday with exercise rider Marvin Jiminez.
Maker mentioned "I was pleased with the work; it looks like he took the track fine."
What do the Sports-Odds.com horse racing betting and Kentucky Derby Predictions experts think about Paddy O'Prado?
Running out of the tenth gate, Paddy O'Prado is listed as a -130 odds favorite in his 2010 Kentucky Derby Predictions Match Up against Stately Victor. Paddy O'prado's pedigree is El Prado and Fun House by Prized. Now sitting in 16th place with $250,950 in Graded Stakes earnings, Paddy O'prado remains a semi-long shot to win the 136th Run for the Roses, despite continuously outperforming day after day.
Paddy O'Prado is a strong gray/roan colt owned by Donegal Racing and trained by Dale Romans. On April 23rd Paddy O'Prado proved he is worthy to participate in the 2010 Kentucky Derby. He darted through the five-furlong work in :58.40, the fastest of 21 works that session with the same distance.
Paddy O'Prado didn't mind the sloppy conditions at Churchill Downs either. Romans said it all with his work being "pretty spectacular, all systems are go..He showed he certainly didn't mind (the slop). (Rain) wouldn't bother me a bit on Derby day."
Paddy O'Prado has a 1-2-2 record in 6 starts. He started off the 2010 horse racing season with a third place showing in the MSW at Gulfstream Park in February 10th. His first Graded Stakes race as a 3-year-old was first place in the Grade III Palm Beach Stakes on March 6th. He was the runner-up to 40/1 long shot Stately Victor in the Grade I Blue Grass Stakes on April 10th.
Coming in at 10 to 1 odds, Ice Box is being considered a late bloomer but earned his spot in the 136th Kentucky Derby by a nose after winning the Florida Derby-G1. He made his colt debut with a 1st place win in the Allowance at the beginning of 2010 in which gave him the chance for the Fountain of Youth-G2 resulting in a 5th place finish. With $457,500 in graded stakes earnings, Ice Box owner Robert LaPenta is happy to be returning back to the Run for the Roses.
ESPN.com is reporting, “Going on the premise that there will be a hot pace in this year's Derby, Ice Box should benefit if he can obtain a clear rallying path in this massive field. He is worthy of superfecta inclusion at the very least. Despite showing some prompting ability earlier in his career, when Ice Box reached the graded stakes level he became a pure one-run closer. Such a running style might be compromised by a 20-horse field, yet he seems mature enough to handle the task. The trouble is that he may be jammed up alongside others who also deliberately lag back before being cut loose for one late charge.”
Trainer Nick Zito will also be returning to the Kentucky Derby in 2010 because of Kentucky bred Ice Box (Pulpit – Spice Island by Tabasco Cat) along with Jackson Bend and has chosen jockey Jose Lezcano who brought in the Florida Derby win. Zito is hoping that the Panama born jockey can bring in a win again.
"Jose is a young kid (Panamanian is 25) but he reminds me so much of Braulio Baeza and he's got a little bit of Laffit Pincay Jr. in him," Nick Zito said of Ice Box’s chosen jockey. "I'm really high on this kid. I think he's got a great career ahead of him, to be one of the best jockeys around in the next couple of years."

Online racebook SPORTSBOOK.com has posted horse racing betting odds on the 2010 Kentucky Derby Picks Match Up between Backtalk vs Homeboykris. What do the Sports-Odds.com horse racing betting and Kentucky Derby Picks experts think about Backtalk?
Running out of the eighteenth gate, Backtalk is listed as a +120 odds underdog in his 2010 Kentucky Derby Picks Match Up against Homeboykris. Never giving up, Backtalk, the son of 2004 Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones, is a 2010 Kentucky Derby contender long shot. His pedigree is Smarty Jones and Apasionata Sonata by Affirmed.
Leading up to the Kentucky Derby post position draw on Wednesday, trainer Tom Amoss mentioned he would like to run Backtalk if eligible. Once it was learned that trainer Todd Pletcher would not enter Interactif, Gold Mark Farm’s Backtalk broke the top 20 list in graded stakes earnings [$225,916] to compete in the 136th Run for the Roses.
Gold Mark Farm general manager of racing Todd Quast stayed focused on the task at hand: "With our situation we've got to just concentrate on him and we've done everything for him that we can to get him ready if he does happen to get in. If we get in the Derby that's great; if we don't we have a good horse and we'll go elsewhere. There are a lot of options."
Last Sunday with jockey Miguel Mena aboard, Backtalk worked five furlongs in 1:01 3/5, galloping out six furlongs in 1:14 4/5. Backtalk has a 4-0-1 record in seven starts. He began the 2010 horse racing season as a 3-year-old, winning the 1-mile Sportsman's Paradise Stakes on January 26th. He did not race until the April 3rd Grade III Illinois Derby where he finished third to American Lion [1st] and Yawanna Twist [2nd].
What do the Sports-Odds.com horse racing betting and Kentucky Derby Picks experts think about Homeboykris?
Running out of the nineteenth gate, Homeboykris is listed as a -150 odds favorite in his 2010 Kentucky Derby Picks Match Up against Backtalk. Come this Saturday evening, there will not be much baseball talk for Dodgers manager Joe Torre as he will be watching Homeboykris whom he co-owns Run for the Roses in the 2010 Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands. His pedigree is Roman Ruler and One Last Salute by Salutely.
After a few more scratches on Wednesday, the Grade I Champagne Stakes winner moved up in graded stakes earning to 17th with $250,500. Back on April 21st, with jockey Julien Leparoux aboard, Dutrow was pleased with his six furlong work in 1:14 4/5.
As far as his 19th Derby post position at Churchill Downs, trainer Rick Dutrow Jr said it all: “We’re going to have to deal with it. I liked the work. I'm very happy with him. I have been high on this horse since the beginning. Julien worked him a couple of times in Florida and he was happy with the work, and said he got over the track very well."
One week later Homeboykris breezed four furlongs in :48.40 under exercise rider Joe Deegan. Once again Dutrow was happy with his performance: “I couldn’t be happier. He went really good. Jockey Joe was really happy with him. He got over (the track) the right way – a very good breeze for him. It’s all good.”
Homeboykris will be racing for the first time since his second place finish in the Allowance at Gulfstream on February 27th. His only other race this season was a fifth place finish in the Holy Bull Stakes on January 23rd. Homeboykris is owned by several owners including Louis Lazzinnaro, Robert Teel, Joe Torre and Diamond Pride LLC.
Stately Victor is listed at 30 to 1 odds and really has a lot to prove if he’s going to win the May 1st Kentucky Derby. However, it’s not the first time the colt has shocked oddsmakers when he won the Toyota Blue Grass. Trainer Mike Maker did have to encourage owner Tom Conway to enter the $750,000 G1 race with “some good vodka”. But Tom has a different memory by stating, “I wasn’t in on the decision … and I wasn’t in on the vodka either.”
Bought for $250,000 by Tom and Jack Conway, the father-son team are very hopeful that their horse will bring on more surprises in the Run for the Roses. Jockey Alan Garcia who brought the colt into his Blue Grass win earlier this month will ride Stately Victor. The real question will be if Stately Victor can handle the Churchill Down’s surface coming up on Saturday while starting out of the 6th pole.
