2012 College Football Lines Week 1

We have finally made it to the start of the NCAAF season and the 2012 College Football Lines makers have their hands full all day today at every sportsbook on the planet. Odds to win SEC 2012: The strength of the Southeast Conference is in the western division where LSU, Alabama and Arkansas are bunched together like hay wrapped in bailing wire. Anything outside of these three will not be winning the outright SEC championship anytime soon. The SEC East is less crowded at the top and looks like the champion will be South Carolina or Georgia. Of these two, there is little consensus of which one is best. It depends on who you talk to. College Football Odds at online sportsbook Bovada.lv list the Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers as 11/5 favorites followed by Georgia at 5/1, Arkansas 9/1 and South Carolina 11/1. Odds makers have it right with this group.

Arkansas could be a trump card in Alabama or LSU’s plans for winning the SEC West because both must visit Fayetteville this fall. The division should take shape pretty quickly after Alabama and Arkansas play September 15. If Arkansas defeats Alabama, and the Hogs are loaded led, the division showdown could come Thanksgiving weekend when LSU travels to the Ozarks.

In the SEC East, Georgia and South Carolina will rule the roost. Both schools return a solid nucleus from last year. The Gamecocks should be dangerous on both sides of the ball with tailback Marcus Lattimore returning for his junior season and a solid defensive line led by sophomore Defensive End Jadeveon Clowney. Georgia’s Aaron Murray is the best quarterback in the East but Carolina should have less drama at the position with Connor Shaw calling the signals.

Odds makers give Georgia a slight edge over South Carolina primarily because of schedule. The Gamecocks must play both LSU (away) and Arkansas from the West. The Gamecocks will be very lucky to win one of those games. Odds makers have Florida SEC odds at 12/1 but it’s my opinion the Gators are not where they need to be at this point.

Odds to win SEC East Division 2012: The big news involving the Southeastern Conference East Division prior to this football season is the addition of Missouri. However, don’t look for the Tigers to be ” beast in the east” as the College Football Odds makers have them listed down the futures list at 12/1 odds to win the division in their inaugural season. Online sports book BOVADA, at Bovada.lv shows the Georgia Bulldogs, who at 8/5 odds, as the team to beat in the SEC East. Winning the division for Georgia would be very good for head coach Mark Richt who despite all his success at the school, is on the coaching hot seat. One coach not on the hot seat is South Carolina head man Steve Spurrier. It’s expected the legendary coach will have his best year yet and odds makers agree lining the Gamecocks odds slightly below Georgia at 5/2.

Florida has historically been the default SEC East favorite for College Football Picks Experts but that isn’t the case this year with the Gators lined fourth best at 13/4. It will be difficult for the Gators to climb out of that hole either, while sitting behind the Bulldogs and Gamecocks who are loaded.

Tennessee hasn’t been a factor in the east of late either and while expected to be improved; is lined at 10/1 odds to win the SEC East division. There is no doubt, the pressure is on for Derek Dooley to produce in Knoxville.

If any school from the SEC East is mis-lined, its Vanderbilt. The Commodores are returning perhaps their best team in decades but BOVADA odds makers have their futures listed sixth down the chart at 20/1. There is no doubt, the Dores are the best value futures bet out there. Kentucky at 30/1 are right where they should be. Joker Phillips’ team will show improvement but is in no way talented enough to compete for championships.

Wisconsin had an easy time of it against Montana in the second-round winning 73-49. Saturday’s game tips off at 6:10 p.m. and will be televised on CBS.

The second-round game between the Commodores and Badgers is expected to be competitive with Vandy lined as 1 1/2-chalk favorites versus Wisconsin with a combined score total of 120 (over/under). Harvard vs Vanderbilt 2012 NCAA Bracket Predictions: The Vanderbilt Commodores men’s basketball team pulled off a huge upset of No. 1 Kentucky in the SEC tournament finals in New Orleans last Sunday to secure its first SEC championship since 1951. The win got Vandy a No. 5 seed in the 2012 Men’s NCAA Tournament East Regional to play the 12th seeded Harvard Crimson of Ivy League at The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M. Thursday, March 15 with tip-off on CBS set for approximately 4:40 p.m. ET.

Oddsmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv list the Commodores as 5 1/2-chalk favorites versus the Crimson with a combined score (over/under) total of 123 1/2. Harvard backers are getting +190 College Basketball Odds on the off shore money line while the price of a SU Vandy win is -230 ($230 wager to win $100).

2012 NCAA Bracket Predictions East Region: The Syracuse University men’s basketball team has been awarded the No. 1 seed in the East Region of the 2012 Men’s NCAA Basketball Tournament. The Orange (31-2) earned the top seed in the East Regional Sunday when the bracket for the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship was revealed. The Orange received one of the 37 at-large berths into the 68-team field and will face No. 16 seed UNC Asheville in the second round Thursday, March 15 at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The game will tip off at approximately 3:10 p.m. ET. The Bulldogs (24-9) earned an automatic bid into the field after winning the Big South Conference Tournament.

The Orange might be the No. 1 seeds in the East, but if odds makers at online sports book Bovada.lv are correct, it will be Ohio State cutting down the nets and heading to the Final Four. The Buckeyes are installed as 8-to-5 College Basketball Odds favorites to win the East. Syracuse is installed with second best odds as 9-to-4, followed by Vanderbilt (9-1) and Florida State (10-to-1). The winner between OSU and Loyola-Maryland will play the winner of the game between No. 7 Gonzaga and No. 10 West Virginia. Most sports shops list the Buckeyes as 18-chalk favorites versus Loyola. The Seminoles will play No. 14 seed Saint Bonaventure of the Atlantic-10 on Friday in Nashville, Tenn. FSU is an early 6 1/2-chalk favorite over the Bonnies for the game. The winner of this game will advance to play the winner of No. 6 Cincinnati and No. 11 Texas. The Bearcats are currently listed as 2-chalk favorites for their second round game with the Longhorns.

The Wisconsin Badgers (24-9) received a No. 4 seed in the East and will face the No. 13 Montana Grizzlies (25-6) in the second round in Albuquerque, N.M. The Badgers and Grizzlies will play at approximately 2:10 p.m. ET. The winner of the game between the Badgers and Grizzlies will play the winner of the No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 12 Harvard game. Wisconsin is lined as 9 1/2-chalk favorite versus Montana and Vandy is a 6 1/2-point favorite over Harvard.

East Region Picks: I believe Florida State has great potential to pull off an upset in this region providing they get past a very good St. Bonaventure team. Ohio State will not have any problems with No. 15 Loyola-Maryland and Gonzaga will show the Mountaineers how good West Coast Conference basketball really is. I expect Cincinnati will edge Texas before losing in the regional third round to the Seminoles. Vanderbilt and Wisconsin will play for a chance at the Final Eight and Kansas State pulls off an upset of Syracuse. My East Region champion pick is Florida State.
