2014 Australian Open Odds

djokovic aussie openThe first major of the tennis season, the Australian Open, officially gets underway on Monday, January 13th at Melbourne Park in Melbourne, Australia. Opening 2014 Australian Open Odds from Sportsbook.ag are favoring the ATP’s second ranked player, Serbian Novak Djokovic, to win the event at +100 odds ($100 wins $100). Rafael Nadal, the current world No. 1, is a second pick with a +250 money line listing. Last year’s Australian Open runner up, Andy Murray, is the third choice of the offshore bookmaker, coming in at +600 odds. Rounding out the top five favorites are Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro, who battled his way back into the ATP’s top five last year after dealing with injuries the previous two seasons, and Swiss great Roger Federer. Del Potro and Federer are drawing +1000 and +1500 Australian Open tennis odds, respectively.

While Nadal garnered the top seed for next week’s tournament, the odds makers are expecting Djokovic to reign supreme in Melbourne. And why not. The Serb has won the last three Australian Open titles and he has four Australian Open championships on his resume. Djokovic also owns a 13-7 record against the Spaniard in 20 career hard court meetings. It is true Nadal had a better year in 2013 than Djokovic, as he re-assumed the top spot in the ATP rankings; however, Djokovic still won the season series between the two players, scoring a 4-3 match advantage and he bested Nadal in their two most recent hard court battles (Beijing, Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in Great Britain).
