Roger Federer Weds Girfriend Mirka Vavrinec: Exactly a month after announcing on his Website (RogerFederer.com) that longtime girlfriend, Miroslava "Mirka" Vavrinec, was pregnant with the couple’s first child, the news broke that Roger Federer and Mirka Varinec got married this past Saturday in a small ceremony in his hometown.
The 13-time Grand Slam Champion posted the following message on his Website.
"Dear Fans:
Earlier today, in my hometown of Basel, surrounded by a small group of close friends and family, Mirka and I got married. It was a beautiful spring day and an incredibly joyous occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Federer wish all of you a Happy Easter weekend.
Love, Roger."
The world’s second ranked player is scheduled to play in next week's Monte Carlo Masters 2009, after accepting a last-minute (wild card) invitation. Surprisingly, the Swizz master has never won the clay-court tournament, as he comes in a three-time finalist.
Roger Federer is still chasing Pete Sampras’ all-time best 14-Grand Slam titles record, which has eluded him since being overtaken by (1) Rafael Nadal for the world’s top-spot.
Federer has gotten off to a rough start this season, losing to Nadal in the 2009 Australian Open Finals, the year’s first major. Last week in Miami’s Sony Ericsson Open 2009, Federer was retired in the semifinals by the third seeded, Novak Djokovic, as he uncharacteristically lost his temper, slamming and breaking his racket in anger, during a match in which he lost, 6-3, 2-6, 3-6.
