Rafael Nadal vs Roger Federer 2011 French Open Men’s Final Betting Odds

by Matt Foust on Saturday, June 4th, 2011

Almost everyone expected a Rafael Nadal/Novak Djokovic men's final at Roland Garros this year, but Roger Federer turned that expectation on its head Friday with a brilliant performance against Djokovic. Federer's victory makes tomorrow's match, which is scheduled to get underway at approximately 9:00a.m. EST, a familiar one as the Swiss great and his arch nemesis square off at Court Philippe Chatrier for the fourth time in the last six years. The latest Sports Betting Odds have Nadal listed as a -280 moneyline favorite to win his sixth French Open title.

Roger Federer, for all his greatness, was Rafael Nadal vs Roger Federer 2011 French Open Men's Final Betting Oddssomewhat of an afterthought coming into the 2011 French Open. Rafael Nadal and his quest to tie Bjorn Borg's record of six French Open titles and Novak Djokovic's undefeated streak were all the buzz at Roland Garros.

Djokovic came into the tournament with a 37-0 record this year and, given his tremendous play, many were wondering if he would end, if only temporarily, Nadal's dominance at the French. It was not meant to be, though, as Federer summoned the Roger of 2009 on Friday.

Federer won the semifinal match in four sets, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), to halt the Serbian's perfect run at 41 (43 going back to last year). The unexpected ouster (Djokovic was a -250 favorite going in) left the 24 year old, who did not play a quaterfinals match due opponent injury, just one win short of John McEnroe's 42-0 streak to start the 1984 season.

Nadal, as expected, held up his end of the deal on Friday, eliminating fourth ranked Andy Murray in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. The win marked Nadal's 11th in 15 career meetings with the Scot.

The Spaniard has been nearly as impressive against Federer, who he has defeated 16 times in 24 attempts. The pair last played on the clay courts of Madrid in early April, where Nadal garnered a 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 victory.

Federer, who has not won a Grand Slam since the 2010 Australian Open, last overcame Nadal at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals (London, England) in November of 2010. He is 2-11 against the Mallorca native on clay and 2-6 opposite Nadal in Grand Slam matches.
