Roger Federer Wins French Open Ties Pete Sampras: As the debates continue regarding who the best ever is, Roger Federer or Pete Sampras, the Swizz won a lot more votes in the City of Light.

On Sunday’s French Open Final in Paris, Roger Federer solidified his name in the history books. Arguably the best to ever swing a racket, the Swizz master completed a career Grand Slam by capturing the last title missing from his trophy case collection.

“It’s probably my best victory,” Federer said. “It’s the one where I had the most pressure. Now I can play easy, knowing I can say I won Roland Garros.”

The world’s second seeded player also did something only one man, Pete Sampras, has been able to do in tennis’ history: win 14 Grand Slam tournaments.

“What he’s done over the past five years has never, ever been done—and probably will never, ever happen again,” Sampras said after watching Federer capture his first French title. “Regardless if he won there or not, he goes down as the greatest ever. This just confirms it.”

In an emotional ceremony in France, Federer won for the first time at the world famous Roland Garros courts, and joined an elite class of players to win all 4 majors. The last person to accomplish such feat, the beloved American Andre Agassi, was on hand to crown Federer as the 2009 French Open champion.

"It ends the discussion of where he fits in the history of the game," Agassi said. "If it wasn't for (four-times champion Rafael) Nadal, he probably would have won a handful of these things. So nobody would underestimate where he deserves to fit in this game.”
