Rafael Nadal nearly had his hopes of a third Wimbledon crown dashed on Monday after he suffered an injury to his left foot while facing Juan Martin Del Potro. The Spaniard recovered, though, and now appears ready to face American Mardy Fish in tomorrow's quarterfinals. American Mardy Fish finds 
himself in uncharted waters right now as he has never played in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. In fact, in 34 Grand Slam entries, Fish has only reached the quarterfinals three times and that includes this year's Wimby.
The Minnesota native is playing some great tennis, though, with only one of his opponents able to take him to a fourth set thus far. Fish got past Robin Haase 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 1-1 (retired) in the third round, but he has bested every other comer, including last year's runner-up, Tomas Berdych, in straight sets.
Berdych suffered a bad Fish experience on Monday as the American took him out 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, 6-4. The 29 year old Fish, who is playing in his ninth Wimbledon, had 23 aces, 12 unforced errors, and 42 winners in the underdog win.
Defending champion Rafael Nadal needed four sets to get by 24th ranked Juan Martin Del Potro on Monday as he dropped the second frame to the Argentine 3-6. Nadal, who won the opening set 7-6 (8-6), bounced back, despite the foot issue, winning the last two sets 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
Nadal had an MRI done on the foot after the match and the results came back clean, clearing the ATP's top ranked player for his quarterfinals meeting with Fish.
Nadal, who beat Fish in the round of 128 at the 2007 Wimbledon Championships, is 5-0 against the American. The pair last met in the quarterfinals of the 2008 U.S. Open, where Nadal won in four sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2.
