2009 Wimbledon Results Venus Williams Defeats Dinara Safina: To the delight of the United States, the 2009 Wimbledon will indeed have an American women’s champion, as the Williams sisters will play in the 2009 Wimbledon Finals on Saturday afternoon.

Current world’s top-seeded player, Russia’s Dinara Safina, ended up being no match for the 5-time Wimbledon Results champ Venus, as she was eliminated in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) in the 2009 Wimbledon Results Semifinals.

The all-Williams 2009 Wimbledon Final will feature the 5-time Wimbledon champ Venus against her sister, a 2-time Wimbledon winner herself.

This will be Venus’ 8th Wimbledon Finals appearance in comparison to Serena’s fourth women’s final.

“Oh, my God, this is my eighth final, and it’s a dream come to true to be here again and have the opportunity to hold the plate up,” Venus said after defeating Safina. “A fourth final—it’s so exciting. It was so hard before my match to watch all that drama,” Venus of Serena’s semifinal. “It was so difficult. But the hardest part is next to come, to play Serena Williams.”

Head-to-head, Serena currently leads her sister in career Grand Slam titles with 10 (4 Australians, 1 French, 2 Wimbledons, and 3 U.S. Opens), while Venus has captured seven major championships (5 Wimbledon and 2 U.S. Opens).

“The more we play, the better it gets,” Serena said. “Wen we play our match on Saturday, you know, it’s for everything. This is what we dreamed of when we were growing up in Compton 20-something years ago. This is what we worked for, and this is what we want. Like I wanted her to win today and she wanted me to win today. It’s all come down to this.”
