On Dementieva’s serve, Serena pulled off an impossible net-shot to take it to 15-30, as the Russian fell to her knees. With break points in Serena’s advantage through out the match (Dementieva: 3/10, Williams: 4/10), the American came through in the clutch, wearing down the Russian, 7-6 and with a chance to serve out the match.
Serving for the match, Williams quickly fell behind 0-15, before evening things out at 15 all. In a net approach, Serena spiked a monstrous winner, taking it to 30-15. Dementieva continued to show great courage, knotting it up at 30 all.
After a great serve and volley, Williams finally got her first match-point and she converted, as the Russian couldn’t clip the baseline.The final tally read: 6-7, 7-5, 8-6. "It was really, really tough," Williams said. "Elena played so well and we gave the crowd a wonderful match."
