US Open Odds 2014 Men’s Singles

novak djokvovicThe final major of the tennis season — the US Open — is still over a month away, but offshore bookmaker has already weighed in on the event, issuing its US Open odds 2014 men’s singles. The early favorite is the ATP’s top ranked player, Novak Djokovic. Djokovic, who won his seventh career Grand Slam at Wimbledon in June, is drawing +160 tennis odds ($100 wins $160) to win his second US Open championship.

Spain’s Rafael Nadal, who was supplanted atop the ATP rankings thanks to Djokovic’s run at Wimbledon, is a second US Open pick at +250 odds. Nadal captured his second US Open title last year when he defeated Djokovic 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the final.

Third on Sportsbook’s US Open list is Andy Murray at +400 odds. Murray won his first Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows in 2012, but he was eliminated by Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals of last year’s tournament. Murray has suffered through a particular difficult 2014 season — by his standards anyway — as he has yet to win a singles title this year. Murray, who bowed out in the quarterfinals in a title defense effort at Wimbledon, has fallen to 10th in the ATP rankings as a result.

Rounding out the top five US Open favorites are Roger Federer and the aforementioned Wawrinka at +800 and +1200 odds, respectively. Federer won five consecutive US Open championships between 2004 and 2008, but he has reached the final in New York just one time since (2009). In fact, since winning the Australian Open in 2010, Federer has appeared in just three Grand Slam finals (18 events), the most recent of which was at this year’s Wimbledon.

Wawrinka, currently the third ranked men’s singles player, won his first career major in Melbourne earlier this year; however, he has never appeared in another Grand Slam final and he has made it past the quarterfinals at the US Open just one time (2013).
