Maria Sharapova out of US Open and Beijing Olympics: The 2006 US Open Champion and 3rd seeded player in the world, Maria Sharapova, has announced that she will miss the 2008 US Open and the Olympics in Beijing due to a bad right shoulder. This will be the first major championship Sharapova misses since her Grand Slam debut in 2003. SportsBook.com has posted the betting odds (money line) for who will win the 2008 US Open Championship beginning September 4th, 2008.

The good news is, that she might not need surgery, just some rest. It is projected that she may be able to return to action in about 2-3 months.

The 3-time Grand Slam winner, who has been in obvious discomfort, is deeply hurt emotionally: “It hurts me so much to miss the Olympics and the U.S. Open, you have no idea… just to type those words hurt!!”

Maria Sharapova was in fact the second betting odds (money line) favorite (+250) to win the 2008 U.S. Open according to what SportsBook.com posted.

The young Russian, has competed in each of the past 23 major championships. Sharapova's Grand Slam titles thus far in her career are: at the All England Club (Wimbledon) in 2004, the U.S. Open in 2006, and the Australian earlier this year. Serena Williams is the betting odds (ML) favorite to win this year’s U.S. Open Championship at Flushing Meadows, New York.
