Justine Henin Returns to Tennis? Billie Jean King once said, "pound for pound, (Justine) Henin is the best tennis player of her generation." Now, seven-time Grand Slam Champion, Justine Henin might be contemplating a return to competitive tennis.
After retiring on May 14, 2009 as the world’s No.1 ranked player, the now 27-year old Belgian has change her stance about coming out of retirement and back on tour. It has gone from a rotund “no” to perhaps leaving the door open for a comeback to a rather depleted state of competition in women's professional tennis.
Allegedly, Henin has recently been seen training for a small exhibition tournament in Charleroi this December. As we have seen this year at Flushing Meadows with Kim Clijsters’ great story, a return is never out of the question when you’re a fierce competitor like most of these ladies.
Now in the 2009 US Open semifinals, her fellow Belgian decided to make a comeback from a 2-year absence after playing an exhibition match at Wimbledon this year. When asked about Clijsters’ comeback story, Henin said, “It is magnificent, that is evident,” Henin said.
On Thursday at the 2009 US Open, the ladies will enjoy a day off while the Men finish their quarterfinal matches. Women’s Draw action will resume Friday, as the biggest matchup of the year will take place on Arthur Ashe Stadium. Who will you root for: the ultimate comeback story in Kim Clijsters of Belgium or America’s best, Serena Williams? Bet on it now!
